Begin your journey by unboxing your package! Inside should include: a bottle/vase, a plastic bag filled with algae plant, rocks, nutrients and our special salt.
Place the rocks inside the bottle, and then add your algae plant.
Take a container and fill it with the amount of warm water specified on the bag of our special salt. Then, add the special salt to the water.
Thoroughly stir the water until the special salt is completely dissolved. Then allow the water to settle for a few minutes until it settles, and mix it again.
Next, pour the salty water mixture into the container that holds the algae.
Finally, add a few drops of food to the container, as indicated on the label of the food bottle.
Feeding and Water Changing Guide
Remember to feed the algae every 2 months by adding a few drops of food, with the specific quantity indicated on the food bottle. Consistent and proper feeding will ensure the algae's health and vitality, promoting a thriving and vibrant aquatic environment.
Water Changing: old salt water discarding
Water Changing: new salt water
To maintain a healthy environment for the algae, it is essential to change the water every 5 months or when the water's transparency decreases. To begin the water-changing process, carefully remove the algae and rocks from their current container. If removing the rocks proves to be challenging, an alternative approach is to first pour the water into a new container. Once the saltwater is separated, dilute the saltwater with tap water in the new container, lowering the salinity level. At this point, you have two options: you can use the diluted saltwater to water plants that are tolerant of saline conditions, or you may opt to discard the diluted saltwater into the sink responsibly. By following these steps, you can ensure the well-being of the algae and create a sustainable routine for maintaining their aquatic habitat.
FUN FACT, these are some very common plants you can water with your saline water mixture:
- Sea pine
- Sea Jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides)
To create the new saltwater, start by taking a container and filling it with warm tap water. Consider the amount required based on the instructions provided on the special salt package. Next, add the special salt to the water and stir thoroughly until it completely dissolves. For best results, allow the water to settle for a few minutes until it becomes calm, and then give it another gentle mix. Your saltwater is now ready for use.
A helpful tip: don't forget to add some drops of food into the water, since is brand new.
What if the algae plant dies?
If the algae plant dies, no worries. It happens to all of us! Instead, use it to help your other plants and flowers to grow. Wash the algae under tap water and bury it in the soil near your plants and flowers. Your algae plant will act as a natural fertiliser and is also a more sustainable way to dispose of it.
